Accessibility Statement

What works, what does not yet, what we know about access at each cabin, and how to reach a person.

Adirondack Mountain Bungalows wants every guest to be able to use this website. This statement says what we have done, what still falls short, and how to reach a person if something does not work for you.

Our target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA across this site. Where a page falls short, we would rather hear about it than guess.

What is in place

  • Semantic HTML: one main heading per page, headings in order, landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and a "Skip to content" link at the top of every page.
  • Text alternatives: descriptive alt text on area and cabin photographs; purely decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
  • Keyboard access: links, buttons, the menu and every form control can be reached and operated with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • Color and contrast: body text, buttons and labels meet the AA contrast ratio, and we do not rely on color alone to carry meaning.
  • Motion: the site's animations, including the home-page photo loop, can be switched off with the "Motion: Full / Calm" control in the menu and the footer. The home page has no video or audio, so nothing needs captions.
  • Forms: every field has a visible label, errors are reported in text, and no consent box is pre-checked.
  • Layout: pages reflow on phones without sideways scrolling, and text can be enlarged in the browser.

Known limitations

  • Cabin photo galleries: each listing photo carries a short alt text ("The Aviator, photo 12"), not a full description of what the picture shows. We are adding descriptions.
  • The interactive area map is drawn by a mapping library and is not fully operable by keyboard or screen reader. Every place on the map is also listed as plain text and links below it, so nothing is available only through the map.
  • Booking happens on each cabin's listing page on Airbnb. Its accessibility is outside our control. If it blocks you, call or email us and we will complete the booking with you.

The cabins themselves

We have not yet audited the cabins for wheelchair access, and we do not want to overstate what they offer. They are log cabins on a wooded, unpaved property with steps up to the decks and entrances, and the hot tubs are reached from the decks. Before you book, tell us what you need and we will describe the specific cabin as it is: the steps at the entrance, door widths where we can measure them, the bathroom layout (walk-in shower or tub), the bunk arrangement, and the parking surface. If a cabin does not suit, we will say so.

How we test

Pages are checked with automated accessibility tools and by keyboard in Chrome on desktop and mobile. We have not yet completed a full review with a screen reader; that is the next step on our list.

Tell us

If any part of this site is hard to use, email ccaserta2@gmail.com or call 407-497-2783. Tell us the page and what happened. We aim to reply within five business days, and in the meantime we will provide the information you were looking for in another form.

  • Animations switch off with the Motion control in the menu and footer.
  • Everything on the map is also a text list.
