Day Trips

Day trips from the northern edge of the park

The cabins sit at the northern edge of the Adirondack Park, so most day trips run south into it. Lake Placid is 52 road miles away, about an hour and a quarter: the Herb Brooks Arena where the Miracle on Ice was played, the ski jumps you can ride to the top of, the bobsled run and Main Street along Mirror Lake. Whiteface, about 62 road miles away, has the Veterans Memorial Highway to near the summit, usually open from May to October, and the East's biggest ski vertical in winter.

Saranac Lake, 31 to 43 miles away, is the village on the lakes, with the Paul Smith's College trail network on the way. The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, 57 miles away, is a natural history museum on 115 acres with a walk through the treetops. Santa's Workshop at North Pole, open since 1949, is closed for upgrades through fall 2026 and reopens for holiday weekends from late November.

To the east, Plattsburgh sits on Lake Champlain an hour and a quarter away, with the War of 1812 Museum and the story of the 1814 battle, and Ausable Chasm, open to paying visitors since 1870, is about an hour and a half. Montreal is 75 to 101 road miles north; while the Trout River crossing is closed, the Montreal guide gives the crossings that are open and the documents you need.
