FAQ

Frequently asked

Sleeping, the hot tubs, the neighbors, cars, dogs, snowmobiles, prices and the border: the questions we answer most.

Questions and answers

How many people does each cabin sleep?

Four. Each cabin has two bedrooms, a main bedroom and a bunk room, with three beds and one bathroom, per its listing.

Is the hot tub private, and is it open in winter?

Yes and yes. Each cabin has its own hot tub on its deck, exclusive to that cabin's guests, and the listings keep them open all year; The Modern Pine's listing adds that its hot tub is open 24 hours.

Are the cabins next to other cabins?

Each cabin shares its property with one neighbor. The Modern Pine and The Aviator share one property, set well apart along a gravel drive; The Modern Tiny Home shares a second property with a cabin that is not one of ours. Decks, hot tubs and fire pits are never shared. At the Tiny Home's property, the trail, the pond deck and the parking are shared when both cabins are booked.

Which cabins have a fireplace?

The Modern Pine and The Aviator each have a Jøtul GF 160 DV, a direct-vent gas stove with glass on three sides. The Modern Tiny Home heats with its heating system.

Do I need a car?

Yes. The listings say a car or SUV is essential to reach the property; all-wheel drive helps in winter. There is no public transport to the cabins; the nearest train is Amtrak's Adirondack at Plattsburgh, 61 miles away.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, all three listings allow pets, and assistance animals are always allowed. A pet fee may apply; the terms are on each booking page. Tell the host about your dog when you book.

Can we bring children?

Check the house rules first. The Modern Pine's and The Modern Tiny Home's listings say they are not suitable for children under 10 and that the booking guest must be at least 25, and all three listings, The Aviator's included, are marked not suitable for children and infants. The house rules are on each booking page; ask the host before you book with children.

How far is Titus Mountain?

About three and a half road miles; the listings say five to seven minutes. Titus has 53 trails on three peaks, night skiing, terrain parks and a tubing hill.

Can we bring a snowmobile or an ATV?

Yes. The parking areas take a trailer. The Modern Tiny Home's listing describes direct access to the C7 snowmobile trail, and The Modern Pine's puts it a three-minute ride away. New York requires a current registration for snowmobiles and ATVs, including sleds from out of state.

How do I see prices and availability?

On each cabin's listing page, reached from the button on its page here. We don't print prices on this site because they change with the season and the length of stay; the listing page is always current, and dates you pick here carry over to it.

What are the check-in and checkout times?

They are set on the booking page along with the house rules and the cancellation policy. Confirm them there.

Is there wifi and cell service?

Wifi with an ethernet connection is listed at all three cabins, and guests have run video calls on it. Cell signal varies by carrier; some guests report good coverage, others weak.

Where is the nearest grocery store?

In Malone, about ten road miles north: Price Chopper, Aldi and a Walmart Supercenter. South of the cabins the next supermarket is in Saranac Lake, about 43 miles away.

Coming from Canada: which crossing, and what documents?

The Trout River crossing on NY 30 is closed to U.S.-bound traffic until about May 2028. Use Fort Covington or Champlain–Lacolle (both 24 hours) or Chateaugay (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). You need a passport, passport card, NEXUS card or enhanced driver's licence to enter the United States by land.

Are there cameras?

Only outside, as each listing states: a doorbell camera at the front door overlooking the entrance and deck, and at The Modern Tiny Home a second camera on the parking area. There are no cameras inside the cabins.

Are the reviews real?

Yes, every one. They are the guest reviews from each cabin's Airbnb listing, shown with the reviewer's first name and photo as Airbnb publishes them and quoted word for word. We show the 4- and 5-star reviews here; the complete set is on each listing.
