Where to Eat near the Cabins

Restaurants, pubs, pizza, breakfast and late food near the cabins in Malone, Owls Head, Chateaugay and Saranac Lake, sorted by need and checked for 2026.

The closest meals to the cabins are at Trailside Bar & Restaurant in Owls Head, about five road miles away, and, in the ski season, at the Titus Mountain lodge, about three and a half road miles away. Almost everything else is in Malone, about ten road miles north, with Chateaugay and Saranac Lake farther out. The places below were serving in 2026, and they are sorted by what you need: an early breakfast, lunch on the slopes or the trail, a dinner for two, food for a group and something to eat late.

How far you drive for a meal

Malone is the restaurant town. Its Main Street is about ten road miles north of the cabins by County Route 25, roughly twenty minutes each way, and that drive sits behind almost every meal out. One guest left a review that works as fair warning:

20 mins from restaurants so keep that in mind.

So plan the evening around the drive. Pick the driver before the first drink, and keep the trip home simple; the directions page covers the county roads after dark. In winter, check the roads first with the winter driving guide.

The other choices are spread out. Titus Mountain's base lodge is about three and a half road miles from the cabins, five to seven minutes by the listings' count, and Trailside is about five. Chateaugay, east on US 11, is about 22 road miles away, and Saranac Lake, to the south, about 43, close to an hour. Small-town kitchens close early, and several take a Sunday or a Monday off, so check the day before you set out. The Malone town guide has a table of Sunday and Monday hours for the village.

One long-time stop is gone. Hosler's Family Restaurant, across from the fairgrounds on East Main Street, served for the last time on September 20, 2026, after 30 years, and the building was sold. Ignore any older list that still sends you there, and check whether anything new has opened in the building before you plan on it.

Breakfast before skiing

On a ski morning, breakfast happens at the cabin. Titus has opened its lifts at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and at 10 a.m. on weekdays, and the base lodge is five to seven minutes from the door. Malone lies in another direction. The ski area sits about seven miles south of the village, so breakfast in town and then the drive out to the mountain adds about 13 road miles, roughly half an hour, to the morning. Every cabin kitchen has a coffee maker, a kettle and a toaster; the groceries page has the list for the first shop.

If you need to buy breakfast, buy it the evening before. Both Stewart's Shops in Malone, at 289 West Main Street and 554 East Main Street, are open from 4 a.m. to midnight every day, with coffee, bagels, pastries and breakfast sandwiches on croissants. A stop on the way home from dinner in town covers the next morning.

At the mountain, the Titus Trading Post on the ground floor of the Lower Lodge is the quick counter, open Fridays to Sundays and every day in holiday periods. Lift hours change with the weather, holidays and special events, so look at the mountain's own page that morning; the Titus guide has the lifts, the tickets and the rentals.

Breakfast and lunch on a slow morning

On a day with no lift times to meet, Malone has three cafes worth the drive.

  • Foothills Lodge and Cafe, 15 Church Place. A lodge with a full-service cafe on its first floor, open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day. It is the one to try first on a Monday or a Tuesday, when the others may be closed.
  • Cafe Nouveau, 367 West Main Street. Breakfast and lunch, from chicken and waffles to panini and avocado toast, with a coffee list that runs from drip coffee and lattes to iced mochas. Its online ordering offers pickup or delivery. Call (518) 560-9593 for the day's hours before you drive in.
  • The Tailwagger Cafe, 206 Brand Road. Sandwiches, soups and salads, with meats smoked on site, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. It is closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. All of its profits go to local charities and animal welfare groups, and it takes orders online too.

Saranac Lake has more cafes for a slow breakfast on a day trip south; they are in the Saranac Lake section below.

Lunch on the slopes and the trails

At Titus

Skiers can eat three ways at the mountain: a sit-down lunch at Mo's Moon Valley Grill on the Lower Lodge's main floor, open seven days a week, quick plates such as poutine at the Trading Post, or grab-and-go food at the Upper Lodge Cafeteria, which keeps the Trading Post's Friday-to-Sunday and holiday schedule. The cabins are close enough to drive back for lunch, too. A guest at The Modern Pine wrote:

Close enough to Titus that we didn't hesitate to come back and forth for lunch.

On a snowmobile

Titus invites snowmobilers to stop for lunch, and the ski area is less than a mile from the tracks, the old rail bed the C7 corridor follows. The other trail stop close to the cabins is Trailside Bar & Restaurant, 1592 County Route 27 in Owls Head, near the trailhead of secondary trail S78. It is a rebuilt Adirondack roadside bar and grill, popular with snowmobilers in winter, with outdoor seating and a menu that runs to jalapeño cheddar burgers, traditional and boneless wings and grilled chicken sandwiches. Its website posts restaurant hours of noon to 9 p.m., with a 9 a.m. start on Sundays; call (518) 317-7333 to confirm before you ride. The snowmobiling guide has the stops farther down the corridor.

On foot or on the water

Hikers and paddlers should buy lunch in town the day before. Jreck Subs, 290 West Main Street, takes orders online. Stewart's sells deli sandwiches and salads, hot soups, chili and macaroni and cheese, and pizza by the slice. Price Chopper, 53 Finney Boulevard, has a deli counter and stays open until 11 p.m., which suits a shop on the way back from dinner. For a day at Lyon Mountain or High Falls, the Stewart's in Chateaugay opens at 5 a.m.

A dinner out for two

Two Malone steakhouses serve dinner most nights, and a third dining room opens in the golf season.

  • Riverside Steak and Seafood, 387 West Main Street. Steak and seafood, with posted hours of 4 to 10 p.m. every day. It is the dependable choice on a Sunday or a Monday, when Donovan's is closed.
  • Donovan's Steak and Ale, on State Route 11 east of the fairgrounds. Its posted hours run from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and from 3 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and it is closed Sundays and Mondays. Book at (518) 521-3027, and book early for a Saturday.
  • The Grille Room at Malone Golf Club, 79 Golf Course Road. Open to the public from April to the end of the golf season, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Its 2026 season closes after Sunday, October 11, so after that, plan on it next spring. The golf club guide has the courses.

For an anniversary or a birthday, the hour south is worth it. Campfire, the restaurant in the Hotel Saranac at 100 Main Street in Saranac Lake, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from a seasonal menu of comfort food; book through Resy or by phone at 518-891-6900. The couples' getaway page has the Lake Placid choices and a weekend plan around them. Settle who drives before you go, because the trip back from Saranac Lake takes about an hour.

Pizza, wings and takeout for a group

With eight people in two cabins, takeout is easier than a table: call the order in, pick it up in Malone and eat at the cabin. Pick food that rides well for twenty minutes, like pizza, subs and wings, and bring an insulated bag in winter. These places were open in 2026.

  • Giuseppe's Pizza, 369 West Main Street. The downtown pizzeria. In May 2026 the state put it on Malone's downtown grant list for a new front, outdoor seating and an inside bar, so expect changes there.
  • Something Different Pizza & Deli, 590 East Main Street, on the east side of the village. Pizza, wings and subs.
  • The Pines Tap & Table, 135 Bare Hill Road. Pizza on dough made in the kitchen, plus burgers, wings and tacos; closed Sundays. Its ordering page lists food from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and in October 2026 that page asked customers to phone their orders in, so call (518) 483-8068.
  • Mo's Pub & Grill, 3357 State Route 11. More than 25 burgers and sandwiches and a list of poutines. It takes orders online and works with DoorDash.
  • King's Wok Buffet, 3324 State Route 11, and No. 1 Chinese Restaurant, 228 West Main Street, for Chinese food.
  • Jreck Subs, 290 West Main Street. Catering boxes of 6 or 12 whole subs, each cut into quarters for sharing.
  • Price Chopper, 53 Finney Boulevard. A deli counter, a food court and a catering service, with the store open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

The national chains are on State Route 11 and West Main Street: McDonald's at 3375 State Route 11, KFC and Taco Bell at 3413, a Dunkin' at 3414, a Burger King at 234 West Main Street and a Subway inside the Walmart. State health inspectors visited every one of them in 2026.

Delivery is a gamble this far out. Cafe Nouveau's ordering page offers delivery and Mo's works with DoorDash, but the cabins are about ten road miles from town, so check that your cabin's address is inside the delivery area before you count on it. A group that wants one long table should call ahead; group stays lists the dining rooms in Malone that seat a crowd.

Pubs, bowling and live music

All of these are in Malone, about twenty minutes from the cabins, except Trailside, which is in Owls Head, about five road miles away.

  • Mo's Pub & Grill, 3357 State Route 11. A pub with 24 beers on tap, open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • The Pines Tap & Table, 135 Bare Hill Road. Eight draft beers and more than 50 IPAs, with DJs, bands and community events; its website lists the bar's hours as 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
  • Trailside Bar & Restaurant, Owls Head. Beer, cocktails and live music nights, and the shortest drive of the lot.
  • Lucky Strike Lanes, 36 Woodward Street. A family-owned bowling center with a grill and a full bar, cosmic bowling, and clutch bowling, where the lane seems to move as the ball rolls. It opens from 5 to 11 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, noon to 11 p.m. on Wednesdays, 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Reserve a lane ahead, except for the Thursday all-you-can-bowl special, which takes no reservations.

The apres-ski post has an evening at the cabin for the nights you would rather not drive at all.

Food after dark

Malone's kitchens close early. Mo's closes at 9 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday, Donovan's at 8 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday, and the food at The Pines stops at 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. After that, the choices thin out fast.

Past midnight, the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, at 873 State Route 37 in Hogansburg, on NY 37 west of Fort Covington and about 32 road miles from the cabins, keeps its casino floor open until 1 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday and until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The resort has seven places to eat and drink, among them Maple Steak & Ale, the Native Harvest Buffet, The Tavern and Sticks Sports Book & Grill; check which are open late before you go, and go with a driver who is not drinking.

Ice cream stands

Cornell Cooperative Extension's 2026 Franklin County Ice Cream Trail has a punch card you pick up at any stop. These are its stops near the cabins:

  • Malone: Bokie's Drive In, 3960 US 11; Uncle Sankie's Ice Cream, 7 Henry Road; Poup's Scoops, 192 Fort Covington Street; and the Stewart's at 289 West Main Street.
  • Burke: Molly's Ice Cream Stand at Leonard's Cherry Knoll Restaurant, 5676 US 11.
  • Chateaugay: Merrill's Ice Cream & Grill, 6277 NY 374, and the village Stewart's.
  • Brushton: Bushey's Ice Cream Shop, 1192 Washington Street, and the Stewart's at 1271 Washington Street.
  • Saranac Lake and Bloomingdale: Mountain Mist Custard, 260 Lake Flower Avenue, and Teddy's Ice Cream, 1663 NY 3.

Bokie's is the one to plan a supper around. Besides ice cream, cones, splits and sundaes, it serves hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, poutine and homemade lemonade, with dine-in, takeout and curbside service. It was open for the season in early October 2026, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and on Sundays, and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; it closes on Mondays. Several stands on the trail are summer businesses, so call before a late-fall drive; the Stewart's ice cream counters, with milkshakes, sundaes and cones, keep the shops' long hours.

Chateaugay and the road east

Chateaugay village is about 22 road miles from the cabins, on US 11 east of Malone, and it is the place to eat on a day at High Falls and the Chateaugay Lakes or at Lyon Mountain.

  • Talk of the Town Pizzeria, 171 East Main Street. A family pizzeria known for its own sauce recipe; it takes orders for pickup.
  • Stewart's Shops, 195 East Main Street. Open from 5 a.m. to midnight every day, with coffee, pizza, an ice cream counter and gas.
  • High Falls Park, 34 Cemetery Road. The front office at the falls has a snack bar with soft-serve ice cream, open in the campground's season.
  • Merrill's Ice Cream & Grill, 6277 NY 374, on the road south to the lakes. It is on the ice cream trail; call before a fall visit.

Saranac Lake on a day out

Saranac Lake, about 43 road miles south, is the place for a meal on a day out. All of these were open in 2026:

  • Origin Coffee Co., 77 Main Street. Breakfast and lunch all day with specialty coffee, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Blue Moon Cafe, 55 Main Street, and Jreck Subs, 57 Broadway, for lunch, eaten there or packed for the trail.
  • Owl's Nest Pizzeria, 51 Main Street, and Little Italy Pizzeria, 151 River Street, for pizza.
  • Casa Del Sol, 513 Lake Flower Avenue, for Mexican food.
  • Belvedere Restaurant, 102 Bloomingdale Avenue, and Campfire at the Hotel Saranac, for a full dinner.

The Saranac Lake and Paul Smiths guide covers the village's brewery and bars, and the 6er guide has the outdoor store across from Berkeley Green.

Stops on the way in

Check-in at all three cabins is after 4 p.m., so a first-night dinner usually means picking something up on the road. Where you stop depends on the way you come.

  • From the west on US 11. Brushton is about 21 road miles from the cabins. Firehouse Pizzeria is at 1192 Washington Street there, and Scotty's Diner is on US 11 in the town of Moira, at 1049 State Route 11.
  • From the east on US 11. Chateaugay has the pizzeria and the Stewart's above, and Burke has Molly's ice cream stand on US 11.
  • From the south on NY 30. You pass the cabins before you reach Malone, so eat in Saranac Lake, or check in first and drive the ten miles to town later.
  • From Canada. Plan dinner in Malone after the crossing, and pick it up before the last ten miles; the border guide has the crossings and their hours.

The directions page covers the last miles to each cabin.

Eating out with a dog

The house rules shape this one. At The Modern Pine and The Modern Tiny Home a pet cannot be left alone in the cabin at any time, and at The Aviator pets are not to be left alone. That rules out a sit-down dinner while the dog waits at the cabin, so plan takeout on the deck or take turns. In Malone, Bokie's has a doggy ice cream on its menu. The dog guide explains New York's rules for dogs at outdoor tables and lists the vets nearby.

Cooking at the cabin instead

Most nights, the easiest dinner is the one you cook. Each cabin has a full kitchen, a grill outside and a fire pit, and the groceries and supplies page lists what each kitchen already has and the stores in Malone. The cabin comparison shows the three side by side.

Questions

How far are the restaurants from the cabins?

Malone, where most of them are, is about ten road miles north by County Route 25, roughly twenty minutes each way. Trailside Bar & Restaurant in Owls Head is about five road miles away, and the Titus Mountain lodge, open in the ski season, is about three and a half. Saranac Lake is about 43 road miles south. Getting to the cabins covers the roads.

Where can I get breakfast before skiing at Titus?

At the cabin is quickest. Titus has opened its lifts at 9 a.m. on weekends, the base lodge is five to seven minutes away, and Malone lies in another direction. Both Stewart's Shops in Malone open at 4 a.m. with coffee and breakfast sandwiches, so buy the night before, and the Titus Trading Post serves quick food from Friday to Sunday and in holiday weeks.

What is open late near the cabins?

Not much after 10 p.m. Riverside Steak and Seafood serves until 10 every night, Lucky Strike Lanes runs to 11 p.m. from Monday to Wednesday and to midnight on Saturday, and the two Stewart's Shops in Malone stay open until midnight with pizza and hot food. The Mobil at 593 East Main Street is open 24 hours.

Will restaurants deliver to the cabins?

Sometimes. Cafe Nouveau's ordering page offers delivery and Mo's Pub & Grill works with DoorDash, but the cabins are about ten road miles from Malone on rural roads, so check that your cabin's address is inside the delivery area before you rely on it. Calling an order in and picking it up on the way back from town is the safer plan.

Where can a group of eight get takeout?

Pizza and subs ride best on the twenty-minute drive. Giuseppe's Pizza and Something Different Pizza & Deli are in the village, The Pines Tap & Table makes its own dough, and Jreck Subs sells catering boxes of 6 or 12 whole subs cut into quarters. Call ahead, and see group stays for booking two cabins.

Is Hosler's Family Restaurant still open?

No. Hosler's, on East Main Street across from the fairgrounds, served for the last time on September 20, 2026, after 30 years, and the building was sold. For breakfast in Malone, Foothills Lodge and Cafe opens at 7 a.m. every day; the Malone town guide has the other cafes.

Where can we eat with our dog?

Plan takeout on the deck or take turns, because the house rules say a pet may not be left alone in the cabin. Bokie's Drive In on US 11 has a doggy ice cream on its menu in season, and some restaurants allow dogs at outdoor tables; bringing your dog covers the rules.
