Skiing & Winter
Titus Mountain's 53 trails three and a half miles from the cabins, the C7 snowmobile corridor minutes from the parking areas, cross-country trails, the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, and the hot tub waiting at the end of every one of them.
A winter base south of Malone
From December into March the cabins work as a base for skiing and sledding. Titus Mountain's base lodge is three and a half road miles away, with 53 trails on three peaks, night skiing on a published schedule and a tubing hill for anyone who would rather not ski. The Titus guide shows how a ski day fits around the hot tub.
The C7 snowmobile corridor, which runs between Malone and Tupper Lake, passes close to the cabins. The Modern Tiny Home's listing describes direct access, The Modern Pine's a three-minute ride from the parking area, and the listings say there is room in the parking areas to bring a sled. New York requires every sled to be registered; the snowmobile guide covers that, the other corridors and the open border crossings for riders coming from Canada.
For a slower day, the Paul Smith's College VIC and Mt Van Hoevenberg groom cross-country trails 31 to 60 miles away, and the state forest next door is quiet enough for snowshoes. In February the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, held since 1897, builds an ice palace from lake ice 43 miles from the cabins.
Two things make a winter trip here work: a car that handles snow, which the winter driving guide covers, and a warm evening. Every cabin has its own hot tub on the deck, and The Modern Pine and The Aviator each have a Jøtul gas stove inside.
