The four seasons
Winter for Titus and the trails, spring for maple and quiet, summer for lakes and the fair, fall for color. The hot tubs run all year; here is what changes.

What changes through the year
Winter, December to March, is ski and snowmobile season: Titus Mountain is three and a half road miles away, the C7 corridor passes close by, and the roads ask for snow tires or all-wheel drive. Spring, in April and May, is the quiet season. The snow goes in April, the rivers run high, the maple syrup is fresh and the trout season opens; by mid-May the black flies arrive, peak in late May and early June, and fade by early July.
Summer, June to August, is for the lakes, the fire towers and the Franklin County Fair, which fills the Malone fairgrounds for nine days every August. Fall, September to November, brings the color: this high, cold corner of the park is among the first in the state to turn, and the state's weekly foliage report says when. The hot tubs run in every season, and each page below covers the weather, what is open, what to do and what to pack.

The events calendar
The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival in February, maple weekends in March, the Franklin County Fair in August, fall color in October: the dates worth planning a stay around, month by month.
